Parimeter Warning

Now on Hold

For various reasons, principle amoung them being the fact that my hard drive ground to a permenent halt while being backed up to disk, so I lost everything on the hard drive and wiped the backup disks.
Though I have quite a few paper notes, at the moment I can't be arsed to start programming it agin from scratch.

Introduction

Parimeter Warning is a turn based stragetic space warfare game, with the battles taking place on a hexagonal grided map. With the forces avalible to you depending on your managment of ship production, colony recorces and where/when you commit your forces.

Story

You are comander of the Earth Naval Forces, presently on a shake down fight of a new experimental light cruiser, with 4 fighter escorts you are chasing down a small pirate squadron. Just as you defeat these you recieve a message from intelligent at central HQ, that one of the Autamated Frontier Scanning Stations has reported a Parimeter Warning. Further reports state that an advance squadron of ships, of alien orgin have destroyed the AFSS and are heading towards the colony world of Dimiera, the colony has absolute miminal space defences and you are the only ENF ships that can get there in time. The game starts with the battles against the 3 pirate ships, and then carries on with any surviving/captured ship defending Dimiera against the alien scout squadran. What happens next is up to you.

Backgrond

This profect came about for a couple of reasons:
First of all, I wanted a project to learn to program in C, and also to use the Amiga's OS. Since then I have gone to university to do a degree in software engineering, but this is still my first big C project. It is also my first program to use the amigas OS and this is the main reason the project it is going slowly.
Second, This sort of game is always a type I have enjoyed playing and other than a few commercial (eg History line) efforts and the odd (mostly half complete) PD versions, there seem do be a distinct lack of this genre of games. With most being real time, not turn based & without much depth. Thus I decided to write a game I would want to play.

Progress

Most of the background working, tables, diagram etc are down on paper , with some of the program moduals done for them. I at the stage where I can do all the window/screen stuff and gadtools is starting to come clear. To present there is about 275k of code (most of which will probably need to be rewitten)-: ).

Future

Once I have progressed a bit further I will put some more details here, this is when I will need your help, with extra ideas to put into the game. Once it is vagualy working I will put a beta version on this page for people to look at. Finally if anyone knows where I can get a second hand copy of the Amiga ROM kernal manuals V3 (for KS2.0), preferably somewhere in Manchester(UK) them please let me know.

Ideas and encouragment always welcome. ---
